A train station may sound like a strange place to have your holiday office party or corporate event, but Union Station in downtown LA is not your ordinary train station. It’s a throwback to the days when train travel still held a modicum of mystery and excitement. Among all of the Los Angeles venues, Union Station remains a favorite of our LA event planners.

About Union Station

The station itself is a transportation hub that serves more than 60,000 people every day. It began as the Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal in 1939 and was built to be an architectural and aesthetic marvel for Spanish Revival design. It was known as the “Last of the Great Railway Stations” and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Union Station has maintained that classic look and feel including an antique ticket counter that can act as a bar. The main event area space can seat more than 1,000 for cocktails in a unique setting. Film buffs will remember the Fred Harvey restaurant that was used in “The Harvey Girls” with Judy Garland and it has been maintained. The outside features a formal garden set back from the street with white concrete pillars and planted with flower beds. You can have your ceremony in the garden and come back to the main event area for the reception. The indoor event venue can seat 600 guests indoors and 550 guests outdoors, standing indoor and outdoor is 1,000 guests each. It’s a massive venue that has a charm that you won’t find in many other venues. It’s a great backdrop to promote sustainability in corporate events, being itself a sustainable, repurposed venue.
