About The El Capitan Theatre

It was created by the “Father of Hollywood,” Charles Toberman, who erected 36 buildings in that area including the classic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and three themed theaters.

Toberman along with Sid Grauman created the Chinese (which I am sure you are all familiar with), the Egyptian and the El Capitan. It opened in 1926 and quickly became a Hollywood landmark for live plays including “Anything Goes” and “Ah, Wilderness” and was the world premiere venue for Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane.

A Disney Venue Facility

The El Capitan was bought by Disney in 1989 and was named a certified historic site. It then went through a complete restoration. In 1991, it reopened and hosted the premiere of “The Rocketeer.” Imagine your team building event or company party being hosted at one of the few remaining Hollywood landmarks. The venue seats 1,000 with lobby spaces for the post and pre-event soirees. It’s able to host live shows, film and video screenings, concerts and corporate parties and is a great location for a unique company Christmas party. So, too, is it a shining example of alternative reception venues in Hollywood.
