A Designer Virtual Meeting
In a world where large in-person all-hands meetings are still being planned virtually, Behr paints the platform in designer colors! For two years now virtual events have evolved by necessity. Zoom meetings have taken the place of everything from board meetings to weekly round-ups. So when it comes to special annual events like an all-hands meeting, we have to innovate and create something new to freshen the room – no matter where (or when) that room is (or how many).
2nd Year Running
Typically Behr hosts its annual all-hands conference in-person with all the trimmings you’d expect from a company with such a bright future. It is the most anticipated event of the year, with representatives from all over the country attending. Early 2022 felt like a matured 2020 and so their live, in-person event continued, for the second year, to be virtually held for the safety of their employees. See their first virtual conference here.
Data Driven Designed Platform
This year, a custom designed platform was created specifically for their week-long virtual event. Dozens of speakers prepped their speeches while digital designers hand crafted an entire virtual conference venue complete with lobby, help desk, auditorium, breakout rooms, and even gamified the interactions on the platform to encourage inclusion and engagement. Code was written to allow points to be assigned for messaging, attending a session, participating in and even playing games during the break. Surveys were written, coded, and promoted. This entire virtual event was data driven from feedback provided by attendees of the previous virtual events.
Guest Speakers that Soared
Even the guest speakers were evaluated by attendees to ensure their event reflected the company’s values, culture and goals. This year, Katy Perry was featured immersed in color and serenaded attendees from one segment to another. Carey Lohrenz, former F14 Tomcat pilot, took the meeting from 0 to 1,500 mph and helped inspire greatness from 53,000 feet!
Behr’s Stars are Bright
Admittingly two very difficult acts to follow (and not just because of flight speeds) our own MC and DJ took the group on a Trivia journey to see how fast and test how bright Behr’s very own stars were. Turns out they were one the best performing groups yet (no surprise there) with more correct answers than any other group we’ve hosted yet!
Measuring Success
Virtual events have huge benefits that can be applied to in-person events as well as future virtual ones. 2020-2022 has redefined what measures a successful event. We now have stats that tell us the specific formula to design an enriching experience for attendees. Things like “visits”, “time on site”, “pages visited”, “click rate”, “watch time” all speak to engagement rate and overall ROI on your event budget. Add instant feedback from attendees and success is color coordinated in more than just black and white.
Behr is a company that has built its attainment on precise measurements. They cover their square footage with premium people who have perfected interrupting measurements into triumph over their competitors. Their events, virtual or otherwise, are held to the same standard. One, we may add, that we are proud to hold up to even in trying circumstances.
Apart, Together
Thousand of people, each under their own rooms, are grouped into different time zones but all come together on one url to share an experience. Apart, together they embarked on a polished as-live week of education, inspiration, and a little fun. They learned the state of the company, its progress on goals and what is set for their future. They were inspired by guest speakers and each other’s accomplishments. To top it off, they learned more about each other through games that were designed to help them connect and compete.
Hollywood Magic
Speakers were filmed in-studio against a green screen that was then rendered into a virtual room designed to match the rest of the platform. This year we brought the cutting edge technology of XR to the table. XR, or extended reality, is a catchall term for several different but related technologies. It rolls together similar acronyms like VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality), and MR (mixed reality). This technology immerses you in the virtual environment and adds to your surroundings. Camera tracking technology enabled the content to be generated in real-time, rendered from the point of view of the camera. Presentations and data were presented in the rendered virtual room and presenters were able to interact through a screen on stage. The event production and filming crew worked Hollywood magic to make the greenscreen into a realistic stage with shadows, tracking software, and even color matching!
COVID Free
Filming in studio during the new variant of COVID was no easy feat. Safety being the #1 concern of everyone involved, event producers and presenters alike, that all staff and presenters were COVID tested prior to arrival in the studio. For added measure, the studio itself was also thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between sessions to ensure everyone stayed healthy. The added bonus? Thanks to the added safety measure of pre-testing and screening, inside of the studio knowing everyone had tested negative added a layer of security that made the day feel almost like 2019. A Taste of What’s to Come
Smiling faces could be seen. People gathered together for photo opportunities and enjoyed refreshments together again. Laugher rang from the green walls and we were profoundly aware that, like the green screen, 2022 could be made into anything we want it to be. It was a taste of what was to come, and it was like that first sip of ice water on a hot day – incredibly refreshing. While survey results show the event was well received and for virtual was a success, we hear you when you say you can’t wait to be in-person again. When you are ready to pick up the glass, we will have a glistening pitcher of exactly what you have been waiting for ready to pour. And we can’t wait to toast to that!
