A Fresh Perspective
“Life is about perspective and how you look at something… ultimately, you have to zoom out.” – Whitney Wolfeheard
In sales, perspective is the key to success. How you look at the product and your customers is a prerequisite for your ability to “speak their language” and provide the product or service that keeps them coming back. Sales takes a special talent and hones it through grit, determination, experience, and training. As corporate event planners, we plan and watch a lot of sales meetings and conferences unfold. We witness, first hand, the transformation from talented individual to trained leader passing on wisdom and knowledge. It is an honor and privilege to plan sales meetings for businesses across the country.
Zoom, Out, – Person, In
In our 35 years as a destination management company, we certainly have acquired the experience and knowledge of what a successful meeting entails. For one thing, destination meetings certainly allow attendees to shift their perspective both internally and externally. The in-office board room is perfect for the day-to-day, but when you need to shake it up and show both appreciation for their progress AND inspire new success an offsite location is the best option (see 5 reasons why here). After over two years of restrictions and screen fatigue, it is time to “zoom out” and gather in person offsite.
Fueling Inspiration
For one Miami based software company, this is exactly what they did. They gathered their sales personnel and stood before the glittering skyline of success on top of a Miami penthouse. Surrounded by 360 views of breathtaking beauty, they perched soaking in the sophistication and final rays of the sunset. The energetic buzz of business correlated nicely with city nightlife awakening all around them. Hand-passed hors d’oeuvres of fresh flavors such as the Tuna Tartare, Scallop BLT featuring micro greens, Risotto Kisses, or the South American Beef Bruschetta with thinly sliced Picanha and topped with Chimichurri. Each new flavor was specifically designed by the chef to inspire and fuel the attendees.
Fresh Food
Also included were a Catalan station featuring traditional Spanish bread, generously brushed with rich, ripe tomato and olive oil spread and then freshly grilled to order. The sales meeting attendees were washed over with the warm, aromatic smell of hot bread and herbs. They could select from a number of toppings, adding to the complexity of heady scent filling the Miami penthouse. Sliced chorizo, marinated olives and capers, Sherry marinated mushrooms and fresh herbs piquillo and garbanzo spread or goat cheese and smoked paprika spread provided many options to choose from. Their taste buds danced to the rich flavors while a live band played in the background. Attendees enjoyed the perfect pairing with refreshment options from the hosted call bar or private wine tasting.
The Magic of Renewed
To further celebrate the theme of changed perspective, a Los Angeles Magic Castle magician was flown in. He amazed and teased their brains with the finest sleight of hand and filled their hearts with outstanding humor. From the micro to the massive, this sales meeting was all about changing perspective. With no screens in sight, attendees engaged, learned, and expanded their talents as a collective – leaning on the invaluable insights and experiences of each other. For a company who focus their sales to HR, having the human connection again after two long years was the single most important part of this night.
