Creative Solution for a Celebration

Event planners have had to become creative to provide safe, social distance compliant event alternatives. Now, more than ever before, events that provide safe ways to relieve stress and create happy memories from the chaos of 2020 are needed. Born from necessity and creativity, a whole new type of event has been created – the mobile, drive-thru party.

With so many cancellations due to COVID19, many celebrations did not happen. But a lucky few thousand have (safely) enjoyed the experience in San Diego, where a Jewish festival used the concept to celebrate Lag B’Omer in a whole new way.

Lag B’Omer is a Jewish festival that celebrates both the anniversary of the passing of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and the end of deaths from the plague that ravaged the disciples of Rabbi Akiva. It is a celebration of life, love and respect for one another.

Boxed Lunches

Over 300 vehicles passed through the parking lot redesigned with a giant red and yellow balloon archway representing flames. A symbolic bonfire was also lit nearby to represent rising above during turbulent times – a warm reminder that there is light and joy to be had even in the darkest times.

The drive-thru party also featured various circus acts, animal greetings, and more. There were acrobats, mono bike riders, fire jugglers, balancing acts, and animal greetings to pass by.

Stationary floats and stations were spread throughout the parking lot decorated in symbols of the faith. A wailing board was designed and placed while a special text phone number was displayed to get a blessing.

Attendees captured the moments with cell phones and built up an appetite. Boxed meals and goodie bags were passed through car windows by masked clowns and stilt walkers, jugglers, and a live DJ entertained as motorists slowly passed through.
