Planning an Exceptional Theme
When Bobrick contacted us to plan their annual company picnic, they presented us with a theme we knew would delight their team.
We love planning picnics with dazzling themes, and this picnic, in particular, we knew would be out of this world.
Bobrick came to us with the idea of throwing a Rio de Janeiro Carnival themed picnic for staff and their loved ones.
Their Los Angeles picnic spot would be decked out in bright colors and pumped full of great music. We’d bring in a feast of a picnic BBQ and round out the event with samba dancers.
Honoring Culture & Appreciating their Team
Cultural diversity is extremely valuable in the workplace. Education, exposure to a variety of cultures, and a corporate culture that values cultural diversity are exceptionally important and have even been proven to foster creativity in the workplace.
This cultural-based picnic theme was designed to create an environment where employees are encouraged to explore, respect, and learn about different cultures so that they may better embody the core value of embracing diversity that makes Bobrick successful. This includes learning to embrace all backgrounds and experiences in order to be inclusive both within the workplace and in the world as needed.
Bobrick, as proven through their core values, appreciates their team significantly and set out to make their annual picnic memorable, with an exciting theme and experiences to give back to them.
Working together, Bobrick and our picnic managers planned an immersive, exciting day to transport their attendees to Carnival from the comfort of their backyard.
The Fun Begins!
The picnic began at 10:30 that morning. We had arrived at Montecillo de Leo Politi Park in Elysian Park at sunrise, working quickly to ensure everything was ready for the event.
We’d spent the morning firing up our grills, staking down tenting and setting up registration booths and game tables. When the picnic began, our shuttles arrived, carrying Bobrick’s team and their loved ones.
With a hiss, the vehicles braked, and smiling families stepped off. There was plenty in store for them today, and we saw their eyes sparkle as they looked from activity to activity.
A variety of picnic games and activities, from laidback to action-packed, filled today’s agenda. Those looking for a laidback game were welcome to play a round of bingo or one of our tabletop games. Meanwhile, those wishing for physical activity could play a round of musical chairs, try out the obstacle course, or try one of many sports-centric inflatable games.
Lunch & Laughter
Our catering team served today’s meal buffet-style. They’d prepared a variety of mouthwatering delicacies for our attendees.
Besides burgers and hot dogs, main courses like tri-tip, BBQ ribs, and teriyaki chicken were on the menu today. We also served creamy potato salad, refreshing fruit salad, corn cobettes, potato hips, and fresh garden salad.
We watched as the park sprung to life. Music filled the air, along with the thrum of conversation between colleagues and loved ones and the sounds of children playing.
The crowd was a flurry of movement and action, kids playing on the tropical-themed bounce house or the double bay slide and adults conversing over a game of mini golf.
Cheers and laughter rang out from the basketball game and the soccer kick game, folks encouraging each other as they played. Teams competed in the obstacle course, its bright colors gleaming in the sun.
Taking the Stage
At 11:00 sharp, the samba dancers took the crowd by storm. One dancer in green, one in yellow, one in white, and one in blue wowed the crowd with their performance. Their feathered headbands bobbed with their movements, and their glittery costumes, complete with the Brazilian national flag on the front, sparkled in the sunshine.
The energy in the park during the performance was phenomenal. The rush of excitement swept up the attendees, a rush which carried over into crowd participation.
The dancers invited guests to join in on the fun, and before we knew it, a conga line had begun. The conga line grew and grew, filling the park with enthusiasm as it ran. Guests jumped in and joined in unbelievable numbers, dancing their way through the space. Laughter and cheer filled the air as the huge line danced their hearts out.
Once the performance and conga line had wrapped up, the dancers stayed in the park to pose for photos with guests. Smiling groups beamed arm-in-arm with the performers, who mingled with the crowd in a meet-and-greet.
Posing together in the 360 photobooth with the dancers, staff and their loved ones captured the moment and made memories together.
Fun for All Ages
At noon, a raffle opened for anyone who wished to take part. We could see the delight in the crowd as they grabbed their tickets, the many prizes brought in today thrilling them.
Meanwhile, children and adults alike gathered to showcase their creativity at our arts and crafts station, creating beautiful masquerade masks for the Carnival theme, which they proudly wore around the picnic.
Crafting their masks carefully and imaginatively, they created tangible memories– keepsakes they could remember the picnic by long after it ended.
The atmosphere was incredible in the park—vibrant colors mixed with bubbles floating to the sky from the bubble artist.
Guests moved throughout the park, their faces decorated with bright colors from our airbrush face painter. Colleagues mingled and bonded over tabletop games, their buzz of conversation combining with the music and laughter in the air. People snacked and enjoyed their sunny afternoon, trying our ice cream novelties or cookies. Quenching their thirst with a cool lemonade or ice water, families bustled to and fro to try out every game and activity offered.
Lasting Memories
We could tell that the mission today—to give this team and their loved ones a rewarding and exciting day together—had been accomplished. Spirits were high among the group even as the time to go drew near. The raffle tickets were drawn, and excited guests gathered their prizes while the crowd applauded them. Memories were made today, ones we hoped would last a lifetime.
At 3:30, the picnic drew to a close. Guests boarded their shuttles, hands full of prizes and crafts, faces painted in bright colors or decorated by a mask, and smiles aplenty. As we began work to tear down our booths and return the park to its natural state, we found ourselves beaming, too. It had truly been a picnic to remember.

The End to a Perfect Night
Our team busied ourselves packing up decor and tables, and breaking down lights and stanchions.
As we loaded up the last equipment into our trucks, the crescent moon gleaming overhead, we knew this had been a job well done.
We were thrilled knowing we’d done our part to give back to this amazing team.
We were already looking forward to the next time we could celebrate them.
