The Importance of Personalized Picnics
When you’re planning an exceptional event, you start with the people attending and the reason for the event. Once you know your attendees, their needs, preferences, and the reason for gathering, everything else falls into place. When it comes to our company picnic planners, this approach is no different. We love working closely with our clients to get to know their team and plan the perfect, individualized staff picnic.
When a national insurance agency contacted us to coordinate their employee picnic, our company picnic specialists collaborated with them to plan an event tailored to their team. Our client wanted a huge family-day picnic, full of games and activities for their hard-working team. They knew what their team desired, and we wanted to bring it to life.
A Scenic Backdrop
That day in Van Nuys, California was balmy, as picnic venues in greater LA always are in spring. We arrived early at the park to begin our setup, allowing for the time needed to optimize the flow of the picnic setup. Our team bustled, setting up tents, signage, and booths. Our location for this picnic was the scenic Woodley Park. Its vibrant green lawns would play host to today’s team building field games and competitions.
The ring of trees surrounding the park gave it a sense of seclusion as if today’s event took place in its own realm. The sky overhead was a vibrant blue and the sunlight gleamed, causing the trees around the park to cast shade around its edges. Oak wood crackled under the grills, sending whips of smoke into the air as our pit masters got to work. Pumps whirred as inflatables began to take shape against the blue skyline, safety staff hurrying to and from securing them into place.
The Thrum of Excitement
When our client’s team arrived, the large expanse of Woodley Park was theirs for the taking. The park was filled with the sounds of springtime. Birds chirping and a breeze rustling through the trees welcomed them to their picnic. The white umbrellas over picnic tables gleamed in the sun as the smell of barbeque wafted across the grounds. Everywhere they looked, there were games and activities for their enjoyment, all tailored to them.
The park sprung to life with the entry of the team. The atmosphere was energetic, with the busy movement of people entering the park after registration and the buzz of conversation. Wristbands shone on their arms and joy filled their faces as our MC welcomed them to the company picnic.
Food & Fun
This day was to be one full of picnic activities, engagement, and excitement. Our client wanted to encourage employees to create lasting memories on this day, through team games, competitions, and great food.
The smell of lunch beckoned them to the buffets, where our food and beverage team stood ready to serve them a mouthwatering classic picnic spread. On the menu today were hotdogs and hamburgers, vegetable skewers, buttery dinner rolls, baked beans, potato salad, and garden salad.
For dessert, we prepared freshly baked brownies and ice cream novelties. Outdoors on a sunny day, the latter treats are a great way to cool off, especially after field games. Popcorn machines and their attendants stood nearby, for anyone who wanted a salty snack.
Activities Abound
There was much to do at this picnic. Brightly colored sports interactives towered around the lawn, inviting all to come and give them a try.
Our client’s employees made their way to their interactive of choice, the sounds of play filling the park. Some showed off their strong arm at Quarterback Toss, while others played a round of Whack-a-Peg.
Others tried their hand at inflatable axe throwing, those watching them shouting encouragement as they played. We’d brought in plenty of sports games for this active crowd, ranging from basketball to golf, and watching on as eager participants showed off their skills delighted us.
Plenty of Games
For those looking for a little laid-back fun, we’d brought in plenty of tabletop games.
We find passive activities like these to be great not only for attendees with physical limitations but also for giving them something to enjoy while they’re taking a rest between activities.
For crowds like this, whose activity levels are high, tabletop games are perfect for keeping the fun going even during downtime.
For this picnic, we brought in classics like foosball, air hockey, ping pong, and Jenga. Our client’s staff encircled the tables, cheering each other on and engaging in some friendly competition.
Invigorating Experiences
The lively buzz of activities filled the air around us, the park ringing out in cheer. Colleagues gathered around to watch each other try their hand at hockey, soccer, or football, or gravitated in pairs to the Reaction Attraction arena. This game is one of our favorites to watch groups play. Within the arena, individuals must hit lighted buttons according to color, similar to Simon Says. This game is always a hit, and a blast to watch groups play. Laughter and noise fill the air around the large arena as players do their best to win the game. We find activities like this to always amp up a picnic, but our client had even more in store for their team to invigorate them.
Field Game Fun
On the agenda for today were plenty of field games and competitions, designed by our team building event coordinators for effective and fun team building. Our MC gathered the team together, leading the way for the competition. Teams went head to head in rounds of volleyball and softball, the crowd being swept up in the action. Cheers of enthusiasm and encouragement rang out across the park as the crowd cheered the teams on. Competitions like this are always exciting, even for the onlookers.
Teams were also challenged to other field games. Bigfoot Racing tasked players to work together to cross the finish line with four members’ feet strapped to boards. Games like this are incredible for team building, as well as just plain fun to take part in. Teams are encouraged to work together at the Magic Carpet Ride, with one player standing on a sheet and another pulling them to the finish line. A round of water balloon toss rounded out the competition, with everyone’s spirits high from the fun.
One Perfect Company Picnic
As the picnic progressed towards its finale, we felt that this team had exactly the day we’d hoped for them. A day of energy, excitement, and activity had been just what this group wanted and needed. Once more, we were thrilled to collaborate on a picnic personalized to the individuals attending it.
As the sun began to dip in the sky, the picnic wound to a close. Our client’s employees were still full of life and joy as they said their goodbyes and filtered out of the park. As the final guest left, the park grew still and silent once more, and our team set to work on teardown. The sun cast long shadows across the park as we packed up our trucks. The day had been a resounding success, and we were proud to know that this team had such an amazing and memorable experience.
