Growing Healthy
On August 13, 2017, AltaMed celebrated the grand opening of its brand new medical facility in South Gate, CA with a ribbon cutting and community health fair event. The day’s theme was to “Grow Healthy” in mind, body, and spirit. Thanks to the facility’s large parking lot, the event was hosted right on-site in front of the building to both draw attention to, as well as celebrate, their grand opening.
About AltaMed
AltaMed has been growing healthy for the last 50 years, providing care to both patients and the less fortunate in their communities. They are a company built on caring, right down to the services they provide. So when it came to the grand opening of a new facility they did not think to have a private party. Instead, they welcomed their community and embraced the opportunity to educate their future patients, caregivers, and employees on their health. Having had worked with AltaMed in the past, they reached out to our event planners to help coordinate the event.
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
The ribbon cutting ceremony began at 11 am with a live band to greet guests as they registered at the balloon entrance. With lots of raffle drawings, awesome prizes, and give-a-ways, guest management was critical. The first 100 kids to arrive received wristbands that they could exchange for a brand new backpack. Completing your assigned “passport” with stamps from booths all over the event gave parents chances to win Disneyland tickets, HP Printers and many other awesome prizes.
The Real Prize
The real prize here was the chance to tour AltaMed’s brand new two-story medical and dental facility. It boasts 35 exam rooms, care for adults/pediatrics, dental, x-ray, pharmacy and still has enough room to host onsite women’s health and health education classes. Tours were held throughout the day so guests could enjoy the festivities as well. After all, there was a life sized surgery game with an 8ft tall “Cavity Sam” and giant good ole’ school games such as Corn Hole, Giant Jenga!, Connect Four, Giant Chess, Plinko and Skee Ball.
Health Fair/Farmer’s Market
A community health fair/farmer’s market included booths from Mother’s Nutritional Center, The Children’s Partnership, and of course AltaMed. Fresh fruit and vegetable booths, local honey and others lined the new facility under their tented station. Food trucks lined up nearby to feed hungry guests a variety of foods including vegetarian options.
Carnival Games & Entertainment
Carnival games gave guests a chance to win one of many upgraded prizes, more raffle drawings, and the health fair had plenty of goodies to take home. Two airbrush artists were present to create temporary mementos while three caricature artists created family portraits you’ll laugh at forever. So guests will never forget where you enjoyed that moment, all artwork was presented on custom AltaMed branded paper just for this event!
Strike Up the Mariachi Band
At 2pm the Mariachi Band kicked off and the dancing began. For those who don’t enjoy dancing, a Rock Wall was ready for climbing. Children enjoyed two moonbounces and everyone loved the Oh Snap! Photo Booth with a customized “Grow Healthy” chalkboard background and back-to-school props.
Grow Healthy, Together
AltaMed really wanted to make sure the seed to grow healthy took root and continued at home. Therefore, guests were given tomato and basil seed packets to take home to continue their growth towards a healthier mind, body and spirit. Both the City of South Gate and AltaMed’s company culture clearly supports growing healthy all the way to it’s roots!
Health fairs and community events are always challenging with flexible guest counts, fluctuating crowds and a unique need to both education and entertain. No matter how challenging an event is, it is always amazing to see a city like South Gate and it’s companies coming together to be the force of positive change in their communities.
