Canopy - Tenting
A canopy or tent is a portable shelter made of cloth, tarp or plastic covering with steel beams for support. It is used to enclose an area with or without established walls, from the elements. Canopies can be built easily wherever they are needed by simply assembling the parts. It is very necessary at an event that has both inside and outside gathering areas especially if the event planner is unsure of the weather.
Unexpected weather elements include:
- Cold
- Expected to rain
- Windy
- Extremely sunny
A canopy or tent also becomes helpful if there isn’t a set boundary for the outside area of the venue and the event planner wants to contain the guests in a specific area. Canopies and tents are extremely useful when building a venue from scratch for instance in a parking lot. A canopy can be built in any size or to accommodate any number of people. A canopy can be transformed into a complete venue and you’d never know it was a canopy unless you were viewing it from the outside. This transformation can be completed through the addition of a sub floor, elaborate fabric draping, lighting, tables, chairs and all other aspects of the décor. Canopies and tents are great because they can be fully decorated and then disassembled.
A canopy could even be just an overhead covering with metal stakes that are inserted into the ground for stability. This type of covering would be good for a picnic to keep the food out of direct sunlight and away from the bugs. A canopy could also be an overhead covering with makeshift walls which would be good for a rainy or windy day. The canopy is meant to be a shelter, so the main objective is that it is sturdy and durable. Canopies, as mentioned before, can be made from a variety of materials and can also be built in a variety of sizes to accommodate any size event. Canopies are often used at outdoor weddings to enclose the bride and groom or the entire wedding itself if necessary.
